How To Photograph Your Dog
Just like there is a science to photographing people, there is a science to photographing dogs. More so, special techniques that you can do to make the photographs come out the best possible.
Always Be Prepared
For this to work easily, its best that your American Eskimo knows how to sit, stay and lay down. This way, you can esily control the activity of your dog when trying to focus the camera. It is always a good Idea to grab some baby carrots, along with a nice squishy toy or bone to keep their attention and reward good behavior.
Depending on the goal of your photograph, action shot or non, lighting will be very important. If you are outside, shoot for a nice sunny day, and if you are inside, use light from the sun if possible opposed to lamps or fake light. You may need to turn on a lamp to balance it out.
What works well for a good "all eyes on camera" shot is with your dog laying down, hold a baby carrot in one hand, and your camera in the other, focus and right as you are going to shoot the picture, say a command like, stay. If they already know how to stay, then you are just reinforcing them to do exactly what they are doing. They will also focus on the carrot (lense) be nice and alert and you will get a good picture out of it.
Once the picture is taken, if it is a digital camera, you can then bring it into an image editing program like Adobe Photoshop, or your favorite image editor and adjust the brightness and contrast, change it to black and white, crop and so on.
